Glass fence is an integral part of the stairs and atriums of any private or commercial building, ensuring the safety of movement of people and often acting as an important element of the interior. It is also used on balconies, terraces, verandas, parapets, stylobates and porches. Glass fences create a feeling of spaciousness, do not burden the exterior of the building, and do not block the view or natural light from the windows.
There are many ways to fasten glass for the erection of glass fences. The main groups of fasteners include metal racks, tires, and point mounts.
1. Metal racks are divided into two types: with full racks, where the glass is the filling between the racks, and with semi-racks or mini-racks, where the glass performs a load-bearing function, reducing the number of visible frame elements of the structure.
2. Mounting on tires is one of the most aesthetic solutions. The tire is installed at floor level or completely recessed into the floor, creating the effect of “growing” glass from the ground. The point tire provides additional technical advantages. Racks and tires can be installed both on the floor and on its side, which allows you to expand the possibilities of implementation and preserve the width of the stairs.
3. Point Fasteners allow you to fix glass canvases on the side of stairs or floors, creating a minimalist appearance of the structure.
Fastener materials typically include aluminum, stainless steel, and painted metal, allowing for a variety of finishes to be created.
The main types of glass used for glass fences are tempered glass and triplex glass.
1. Tempered glass known for its high strength, obtained due to special heat treatment.
2. Glass triplex — multilayer glass, bonded with a special film, which increases its safety. In the event of a breakdown, even if one of the layers of glass loses its load-bearing capacity, the other layer remains in place thanks to the film that prevents falling through the damaged fence.
For additional aesthetics, you can use tinted glass, decorative films or matting. This allows you to adapt the fence to any interior or exterior.
Handrails are an important element of glass fencing, increasing its functionality and ease of use. The main materials for handrails include: stainless steel and aluminum, which provide durability and corrosion resistance, and wood and composites, which add naturalness and warmth to the interior.
Fastening of handrails can be carried out in various ways: through overlaying on the glass, using brackets or using protective linings for the ends of the glass. It is also possible to install without handrails, which adds minimalism to the design.
Aesthetics: Glass fences give lightness to both the interior and exterior of buildings, improve the illumination of rooms and do not limit visibility from windows.
Practicality: Due to the minimum number of elements, such fences are easy to clean, and the glass is not subject to corrosion and other negative environmental influences. In addition, prefabricated structures do not require welding work at the installation site, which simplifies installation.
Safety: The use of laminated glass combined with reliable fasteners makes glass fences as safe as traditional fencing structures.
